“Leaving” was released on October 2012 as the second single of “Elysium”, the eleventh studio album of the PSB. The artwork was designed by Mark Farrow who continued using the same graphic style of the album and the first single, “Winner”, combining the squared background in white colour with a rectangle in top of it with the images. This time Farrow used photos from the british photographer Pelle Crépin who worked with the band before on the “Ultimate” compilation and all the photography used on the “Pandemonium” Tour Book and DVD. The photography in the inner sleeves on the vinyl releases were hooted by Gary Stillwell, a photographer from Farrow Design studio who also did the photography of “Elysium”. Style and wardrobe design was made by Jeffry Bryant and was the same used on the live presentation of “Elysium” in Berlin early the same year.
“Leaving” was released worldwide in a digital format but a variety of physical formats were made in the UK after a long period of small production of them. The first release was promotional CD with Neil in the cover and including the album and instrumental versions of “Leaving” a month before the commercial release. On the date of launching, a 7” Limited Edition Single with only 500 copies was released showing Chris on the cover with a printed Inner Sleeve showing a ‘clouds’ image and the vinyl included a label with Neil on Side A and the tracklist on Side B including the album version and the Demo version. The 12’ Single was pressed on 180 gr vinyl with Neil on the cover, the same artwork of the 7” was printed in the inner sleeve and the 4” labels on the disc showed Chris on Side A and the tracklist on the Side B, including one remix by Dusty Kid and two remixes by Andrew Dawson.
Then two CD Singles were released, the first one with Chris on the cover included the album version and three B Sides: “Hell”, “In his imagination” y “Baby (2003 Demo)”, the same tracklist was used in the digital release; the second CD with Neil on the cover was titled “Leaving Remixed” and included the Demo version, the Dusty Kid Remix and one of Andrew Dawson’s remixes, the digital release swap the Andrew Dawson’s remix with “Believe in PSB Remix” remixed by the Pet Shop Boys themselves. A third digital single were released with the title “Leaving Again” including the Andrew Dawson remix and two additional PSB remixes. Later a Cdr Promo Single was released with the title “Leaving Again” including all six remixes available in the other formats. In the US, “Leaving” was released in a promotional level only with two CD Singles printing Neil & Chris images on each CD and including the original version and 5 out of 6 remixes available.
