“Memory of the future” was launched on December 2012 as the third and last single of “Elysium”, the eleventh studio album of the Pet Shop Boys. The artwork was designed by Mark Farrow who kept using photos taken by Pelle Crépin showing Neil & Chris in a futuristic look with electric blue eyes, pale skin and suites & wigs in white color; this style and wardrobe was designed by Jeffrey Bryant, who has been creating wardrobe for the group for various years. Promotion of the single was done in CD format with two variants: the most common CD was issued in an undersized cardboard sleeve with a Minimax CD -a 5” CD with only 3” size (as Japanese singles) available for recording and the rest of the disc in transparent plastic and the artist and title tag printed on top of the disc to stick out from the sleeve. An earlier version of this promo was issued in a plastic nag with a paper insert using the same artwork. |
The commercial release of “Memory of the future” was mainly in digital
formats and two CDs were released in the UK: the fort CD included an
new version of the single produced by Stuart Price with a different
arrangement and a sped up beat and three B Sides: “Listening”, “One
night” & “Inside”; the second CD titled ‘Remixed’ included five remixes
of “Memory of the Future”, one by Stuart Price, on a by the German DJ
Ulrich Schnauss, who Neil was very enthusiasts to work with, another
one by DJ Waldo and two by Digital Dog. No promotional and/or commercial
vinyl releases were made for this single.
