PSB

“Jealousy” was released on May, 1991 as the fourth and final single of “Behaviour”, the fourth studio album of Pet Shop Boys. The artwork was designed by Mark Farrow and PSB using photographs of Neil & Chris taken by Eric Watson. The photographs were bleached-out according to Chris’ request to show images “a few steps removed from reality” and the high-fashion colours of Chris in sportswear used on the 12” Single cover contrasted with a more dour, black & white image of Neil used on the 7” Single. The Cassette Single showed both images of Neil & Chris side by side, as a resemblance of the photo used on the album “Actually” but changing the expressions on each, now Chris showed an opened mouth instead of Neil’s on the album cover. |
All back covers continued with the same usage of typography with a big
presence of the catalogue number but this time making all type ‘italic’.
The 7” and Cassette Singles included a new single version of “Jealousy”
and the B Side “Losing my mind”, a song written by Stephen Sondheim
in 1989 for Liza Minelli and produced by the Pet Shop Boys. The 12”
Single included “Jealousy (Extended Mix)” and “Losing my mind (Disco
Mix)”.

In addition to the cassette, 7” and 12” Singles, “Jealousy” was released in CD and it’s the first PetShopBoys' song that included a second CD Single (previously there were only one CD corresponding to the first 12” Single but the second 12” Single have never been released on a CD format). The first CD issued in a cardboard sleeve showed the same image as the cassette single with both photos of Neil & Chris in the lower half of the sleeve and white color with the name of the band an title in the upper half and included “Jealousy (7” Version)” and the two remixes included in the 12” Single; due to a last minute track listing change, these first UK pressing were labelled on disc and sleeve as including the 7" mix of “Losing My Mind” instead of Jealousy (Extended Mix) but the unique release with this track listing was the German Edition. |
The
second CD issued as a Limited Edition ‘Digipak’ showed Neil dressed
in white with a hat and ‘angel wings’ photographed at the “Performance
Tour” by George Mott; a similar photo of Chris with a a white wardrobe
and ‘angel wings’ was included inside the package and included “Jealousy
(Extended Version)”, same track as the first CD; “This must be the place
I waited years to leave (Extended Mix)”, and there’s a 2 minute longer
version that appears in the Japanese edition of “Behaviour”; and “So
hard (Eclipse Mix)”, track that appeared before only in the third German
CD Single of “So hard”. For the international editions only Germany
released the full set of formats as the UK with some variations/additions:
the 7” Single changed the color of the text in the front cover with
dark blue instead f white; both CD Singles were issued in slim jewel
cases and the second CD Single was also issued as a second 12” Single
but using the photo of Chris with “angel wings” for the front cover
instead of Neil’s and the back cover used the exact same artwork as
the CD using the wrong catalogue number “cdrs6283” that should be used
for CDs only and should have been “12rx6283” following the format in
previous vinyl singles.
